Unicorn Tissue Culture Vessel

unicornOneTwo.jpg (419016 bytes)

  • Polypropylene construction

  • Microwavable and autoclavable

  • Cap #1 fits tighter and is best for autoclaving purposes

  • Cap #2 fits loose and is best for microwave processing

  • Approximately 3 inches high with a volume of 150 ml

  • Ideal replacement for the glass baby food jar

  • Light weight; containers “nest” inside each other

  • Lower shipping costs

  • Manufactured by Unicorn Manufacturing in Texas

  • Sold at www.hometissueculture.org

How does the Unicorn vessel compare with others?

Media preparation using a microwave and new “Unicorn vessels”

  • After adding liquid medium and a solidifier, place the polypropylene Unicorn vessel cover #2 on the jar loosely.  This cover is recommended when microwaving.

  • Place 4-5  jars in the microwave oven.
  • Set microwave for 2 minutes.  Time will vary with individual microwaves. Watch the liquid and when it starts to boil, continue microwaving for 60 seconds
  • Wearing hot pad gloves, or using hot pads or a jar holder, remove the jars and sit them on a stable surface.  PUSH CAPS ON completely.
  • Swirl each jar briefly to mix the media and the agar.
  • Do not hold the jar by the plastic cap since they can readily come loose.
  • Allow to cool.  Store in plastic container or in zip lock bags on a tray.
